About us
Monumental Biosciences engineers biologics for precise targeting, increased potency and optimized pharmacokinetics, yielding medicines that are more effective, less toxic, and more convenient for patients.

Christian Hinderer MD, PhD
Founder and President
Christian completed his MD/PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, where he trained with Jim Wilson, a pioneer in the field of gene therapy. He subsequently directed translational research at Penn's Gene Therapy Program, overseeing more than 20 research programs for inherited cardiovascular, neurological, and metabolic disorders and bringing five drugs from target identification through first-in-human studies. He is the inventor of dozens of novel drug candidates licensed to various biopharmaceutical companies, including NAVSUNLI, a gene therapy for Hunter syndrome being developed by REGENXBIO, with BLA submission expected in late 2026. Christian was a founder of G2Bio, an incubator developed in collaboration with Temasek and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Scout Bio (acquired by Ceva Santé Animale). Most recently, Christian founded General Medicines, a company utilizing proprietary drug delivery technology to address some of the largest unmet needs in medicine. As the founding CEO of General Medicines, Christian led the company through development of its lead candidates, initiation of a partnership with the Gates Foundation, and the closing of the company's series B financing. In 2026, Christian launched Monumental Biosciences with a mission to apply lessons learned from years of drug development to engineer a new generation of therapeutics with superior target specificity and pharmacokinetics to maximize efficacy, safety, and convenience for patients.
